Chin augmentation with hyaluronic acid
Hardly any detail changes the profile as much as the chin. If it sits too far back, the nose looks bigger, the neck shorter and the jawline weaker — quite regardless of how those areas actually look. With hyaluronic acid this can be corrected in half an hour, without surgery.

The chin decides the whole profile
A harmonious profile follows simple proportions: seen from the side, the chin should sit roughly in line with the lower lip. If it lies clearly behind that — a receding chin, or microgenia — the perception of the entire face shifts.
The nose then looks bigger, although it is not. The transition to the neck looks shorter and softer. The jawline loses its front anchor point and therefore looks blurred. And the marionette lines stand out more clearly, because the support is missing.
In some people this is congenital and present from a young age. In others it develops over the years, because the chin bone recedes and the chin pad sinks downwards. In both cases a shape-stable hyaluronic filler can replace the missing projection — placed deep on the bone, where it provides structural support.
How does the treatment work?
-
01
Profile analysis
The chin is assessed exclusively in profile. We look at the relationship between nose, lips and chin and determine how many millimetres of projection are missing. We also clarify whether the concern really comes from the chin — sometimes the cause is the nose, sometimes a jaw misalignment that belongs with an orthodontist.
-
02
The treatment
approx. 20–30 min
After disinfection and a numbing cream we place a firm, shape-stable filler deep on the chin bone. There it builds projection without shifting. Where needed we contour laterally so that the transition to the jawline stays fluid.
-
03
Straight afterwards
You see the new profile immediately. For one to two days the chin can be slightly swollen and tender to the touch. Cooling is allowed, massaging is not.
-
04
Follow-up check
After two weeks the final result is there. If the projection is not yet quite right, we top up then — better in two steps than too much at once, because at the chin an excess is immediately obvious in profile.
What changes
-
A more harmonious profile
Nose, lips and chin come into balance — the effect in profile is often striking.
-
The nose looks smaller
Without anything being done to the nose: proportion beats size.
-
A clearer transition to the neck
A projected chin visually tightens the line between chin and neck.
-
It supports the jawline
The chin is the front anchor point of the jawline — without it, any contouring stays weak.
-
No surgery
No incision, no implant, no anaesthetic — and fully reversible.
-
Visible immediately
You see the result in our mirror, not weeks later.
When a filler is not the right answer
Hyaluronic acid can build projection — but only within limits. With a pronounced skeletal retrusion of the lower jaw it reaches those limits; here a maxillofacial or orthodontic route is the more honest one.
Equally, if a permanent result is expressly what you want, a chin implant may make more sense than a treatment that has to be repeated every twelve to eighteen months. With DDr. Jessica Wittmann we have a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in-house who can assess precisely that question properly. At the introductory consultation we tell you openly which route suits your findings.
A professional treatment requires three things
-
Experienced specialists
At the chin every millimetre counts — and the mental artery runs directly beneath it. Here you are treated exclusively by specialist doctors, among them DDr. Wittmann, a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
-
Only the best products
Projection requires a very firm, shape-stable filler that does not migrate under muscle movement. We use exclusively clinically tested preparations from renowned manufacturers.
-
Time for the consultation
Whether filler, implant or orthodontics is the right answer is decided by the findings — not by the wish for the quickest solution. We take our time over that assessment.
The most frequent questions
How much material do I need for the chin?
Usually one to two millilitres. Because a very firm filler is used here, even a small amount achieves a clearly visible effect in profile.
Will my chin become too big?
Not if the work is done step by step. At the chin an excess is immediately obvious in profile, which is why we dose deliberately conservatively and prefer to top up after two weeks.
How long does the result last?
Twelve to eighteen months. The shape-stable fillers that sit deep on the bone are among the longest-lasting there are.
Will my nose really look smaller afterwards?
Visually yes, although nothing about the nose changes. Perception of a profile is a matter of proportion: if the chin sits further forward, the relationship shifts — and the nose catches the eye less.
What is the difference from a chin implant?
The implant is surgery and permanent; the filler is an injection and lasts twelve to eighteen months. The filler is the ideal way to try the result first — if you like it, the permanent solution can be discussed later.
Does it help my double chin?
A projected chin visually tightens the transition to the neck considerably. It does not remove existing fat tissue beneath the chin — for that there are other procedures that we offer in-house.
Is the treatment painful?
Hardly. The fillers contain a local anaesthetic, and on request we apply a numbing cream beforehand. The chin is a little more sensitive to pressure than other regions, but the treatment takes only minutes.
Can I have it reversed?
Yes, completely. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved within minutes with the enzyme hyaluronidase — unlike an implant, which would have to be removed surgically.
Should I treat the chin and jawline together?
Often yes. The chin is the front anchor point of the jawline; without it, any jawline contouring stays weak. What makes sense first in your case is something we discuss at the introductory consultation.
Will I get bruises?
Possible, but rare. Slight swelling and tenderness for one to two days are normal. Schedule the appointment one to two weeks before an important occasion.
What do I need to bear in mind afterwards?
On the day of treatment no sport, no sauna, no solarium, and do not massage the chin or rest it on your hand. Cooling is allowed. From the next day everything is as usual.
What does the treatment cost?
We charge per millilitre of hyaluronic acid — from € 460 per millilitre, including consultation, treatment and material. We tell you the amount required in advance at the introductory consultation.
